Watch a Japanese Version of Spider-Man

Head over to Marvel.com and watch the first episode of Toei no Supaidâ-Man, a Japanese television show based on the comic book character Spider-Man. According to the IMDb, the show was produced in 1978 by the Toei Company. The video is subtitled for those who don’t understand Japanese. It’s quite a bit different than the Spider-Man most people are used to. For starters, he has a giant robot.

In April of 1977, by the way, CBS aired a made-for-TV movie based on Spider-Man. It led to a short-lived television series called The Amazing Spider-Man that starred Nicholas Hammond.
