DVD Tuesday: Adam-12

It’s another slow week with just one new season release: Adam 12: Season Three, featuring 26 episodes from the 1970-1971 season. The first season of the series was released in 2005; the second three years later in 2008. At this rate, it could be quite some time before the remaining for seasons (the series ran from 1968 to 1975).

You can also pick up Super Friends: The Lost Episodes. According to this article at TVShowsOnDVD the episodes have never truly been “lost,” but were produced after ABC dropped the animated series from its Saturday-morning line-up following the 1982-1983 season. A handful were seen on ABC during the 1984-1985 season, however, and all were later shown in syndication. Whether they’re actually rare, as the back of the box states, or haven’t been seen on television often is a question better left to a Super Friends enthusiast.

Available as an Internet exclusive is special 60th Anniversary Premiere Collector’s Edition Boxed Set of Kukla, Fran and Ollie containing the first five of 39 episodes that will eventually be released on DVD. These half-hour episodes are in color and were originally broadcast on NET/PBS beginning in 1970. According to the Unofficial Kuklapolitan Website, a batch of 26 episodes debuted on February 4th, 1970 and an additional 13 episodes on September 7th, 1975.

  1. Adam-12 S3 brings to DVD perhaps the best episode of the seven year run, “Elegy For A Pig” in which Officer Malloy discovers a fellow cop he’s known for years shot dead in an alley, and reflects on his life. It’s done in a style where Malloy’s narration is the only dialogue in the program and the traditional theme music is scrapped for the open and closing.
