Short That Girl Promotional Spot
Here’s a very short promotional spot for ABC’s That Girl featuring that girl herself, Marlo Thomas. This is a black and white version of what would have been seen by many viewers in vibrant color.
Saturday, December 12th, 2009 Update: In the comments, Barry suggests that this is a sponsor ID rather than a promotional short, which makes a lot of sense given its short length.

This is a “sponsor I.D.”, originally seen during “THE GREEN HORNET” in 1966-’67 {“‘THE GREEN HORNET’- brought to you by…”}. During this period, not all advertising for some of ABC’s series were sold before their scheduled airdates (particularly the newer shows featuring “participating sponsorship”, including “THE GREEN HORNET”), and the network had to air “in-house” promos during some of those one-minute breaks. In these “custom” sponsor I.D. bumpers, ABC usually featured one of their stars reminding viewers when they could be seen, sometimes using the tag line “…over most of these ABC stations”. Often, the promo seen during the show spotlighted other ABC series, or upcoming specials. That’s how “financially insecure” they were during the ’60s. In mid-1960, the network’s standard “sponsor I.D.”, announced by Dick Tufeld, featured the ABC logo (used at the time) against a drawing of the U.S., and went like this: “…The American Broadcasting Company and its affiliated stations, throughout the United States and North America!”.
