DVD Tuesday: Dallas Season Twelve

Every Tuesday I take a look at obscure and/or classic television programs, specials, miniseries or made-for-TV movies being released on DVD. For the record I consider anything broadcast prior to 1980 to be classic or else there wouldn’t be much to discuss. The releases referred to in these posts are encoded for Region 1 use in the United States and Canada.

Out today from Warner Home Video is Dallas: The Complete Twelfth Season, with all 26 episodes from the 1988-1989 season. Because Dallas premiered in 1978 and had such a big impact on network television, I’m waving my usual rule about not discussing programs broadcast after 1980. Warner has been releasing two seasons a year since 2006 and Season 13 will be out in April of this year. Will the company try to get Season 14, the final season, out this year as well? We shall see. Also out today from Warner Home Video is Scooby’s All Star Laff-A-Lympics, Vol. 1. Technically, the single-disc release only contains one segment of Scooby’s All-Star Laff-A-Lympics, which aired Saturdays on ABC from 1977-1978. Each two-hour episode contained for segments: “The Scooby-Doo Show,” “Laff-A-Lympics,” “The Blue Falcon & Dynomutt” and “Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels.” This first volume contains four episodes of the “Laff-A-Lympics” segment; 16 segments were produced for the 1977-1978 season and another eight for the 1978-1979 season.
