The Marvel Super Heroes Advertisements, Circa 1966

The Marvel Super Heroes was a syndicated cartoon produced in Canada. It premiered in the fall of 1966 on stations in the United States and around the world. The series was broadcast in strip syndication which meant a new episode aired every weekday.

Each episode was made up of three seven-minute shorts featuring one of five Marvel characters: Captain America (Mondays), The Incredible Hulk (Tuesdays), The Invincible Iron Man (Wednesdays), The Mighty Thor (Thursdays) and Prince Namor the Sub-Mariner (Fridays). A total of 65 episodes were produced–thirteen for each character–which adds up to a total of 195 segments.

The following four advertisements for The Marvel Super Heroes come straight from the pages of Marvel’s The Avengers comic book. Specifically, these come from issues #33-36 (published October 1966-January 1967). Do note that comic books are typically published two or three months prior to the cover date. That means the first advertisement likely appeared in July or August 1966 which was a month or two before the series debuted in syndication. So comic book readers had plenty of time to find the series on a location station.

  1. I love looking at old TV show ads especially if there are channels included…I noticed most of them were probably independent stations, which are too few and far between because of cable and satellites…God I miss those days.

What I thought was neat are the foreign channels mentioned.

    1. Probably because Marvel ended up making a deal with another producer for a “Spider-Man” cartoon series that would premiere in 1967 on ABC.

  2. In New York, WOR-TV scheduled “MARVEL SUPERHEROES” weeknights at 7pm(nyt) in the 1966-’67 season.
