WNHC-TV Schedule, Week of August 8th, 1948

Here’s the schedule for station WNHC-TV in New Haven, Connecticut for the week beginning Sunday, August 1st, 1948, straight from listings published in The Hartford Courant. WNHC-TV was a DuMont affiliate; many of its programs were relayed from station WABD in New York City. Because the station had a regular schedule the week’s programming was nearly identical to that broadcast the previous week but there were some differences. One big change was the shift to a 5PM start time on weekdays. There was also less wrestling this week.

As an aside, I’ve still yet to determine exactly what Program Resume is. Previous listings had it running for five minutes but that’s all I know.

  1. It’s obvious what “PROGRAM RESUME” was supposed to be- a “preview” of what viewers could expect from each evening’s schedule {“..at 8 o’clock is ‘FAMILY SING’, a delightful half-hour in which YOU can join in with our chorus and sing beloved old favorites, including that wonderful Falstaff Openshaw opus, ‘Take Your Feet Off the Table, Mother, Or I’ll Sock You In the Mush’…at 8:30 is ‘JOEY FAYE’S DRUG STORE’, featuring that hilarious young comedian, Joey Faye….*whoever HE is*….and his inept efforts at operating the neighborhood drug store, mixed in with music and delightful characters. Tonight, Joey tries to become an amateur chemist, and almost blows up an entire city block…*why he didn’t do that to his show when he had the chance?* Oh, yes, it’s going to be a DELIGHTFUL evening on Channel 8…*thank god I’m going bowling later on, so I don’t have to see all this—*}

  2. Oh yes,in Baseball Russ Hodges called the “shot heard around the world” when Bobby Thomson (RIP) homered, giving the Giants the over the Dodgers for the NL pennnant in 1951
