DVD Tuesday: The Bionic Woman, Ironside

Every Tuesday I take a look at obscure and/or classic television programs, specials, miniseries or made-for-TV movies being released on DVD. For the record I consider anything broadcast prior to 1980 to be classic or else there wouldn’t be much to discuss. The releases referred to in these posts are encoded for Region 1 use in the United States and Canada.

Out today from Universal Studios Home Entertainment is The Bionic Woman: Season One, with the fourteen episodes that made up the first season of The Bionic Woman (broadcast as a mid-season replacement in 1976) as well as four episodes of The Six Million Dollar Man. Plus, the set also includes a featurette, audio commentaries and a brief gag reel. Also out today, from Shout! Factory, is Ironside – Season 4 but you’ll only find it online through the Shout! Select program. Included are all 26 episodes from the 1970-1971 season.

Timeless Media Group has two releases out today but they’re not exactly what I’d call new. Back in 2007, Universal released the first season of Alias Smith and Jones; Timeless released the remaining two seasons earlier this year. Now the company is repackaging all 50 episodes as Alias Smith and Jones – The Complete Series. Timeless has also packaged the first episode of four NBC Westerns — The Virginian, Wagon Train, Laredo and Laremie — as NBC Western TV Legends. You can get all four episodes for just $9.98.

Update: For some reason, several Warner Archive releases are said to be available beginning tomorrow rather than today. Either way, you can purchase “Legend of the Super Heroes,” Josie & the Pussycats in Outer Space – The Complete Series and The Addams Family (1973 Animated Series) – The Complete Series online right now and they’ll ship whenever they’re ready.
