DVD Tuesday: The Fugitive, Doctor Who

Every Tuesday I take a look at obscure and/or classic television programs, specials, miniseries or made-for-TV movies being released on DVD. For the record I consider anything broadcast prior to 1980 to be classic or else there wouldn’t be much to discuss. The releases referred to in these posts are encoded for Region 1 use in the United States and Canada.

Out today from Paramount Home Entertainment is The Fugitive: The Fourth and Final Season, Volume One. Included are the first 15 episodes of the 1966-1967 season; the series switched from black and white to color this season. I’ve yet to see any reviews of this set so I can’t say whether the original music is intact or not. The second half of the fourth season has not be announced but conceivably it could be released in time for Christmas; the first half of Season Three was released on October 27th, 2009 with the second half following on December 8th, 2009.

Also out today from Paramount Home Entertainment is TV Sets: Christmas Treats, a single disc collection of eight “classic” Christmas episodes from shows like The Odd Couple, Petticoat Junction, Laverne & Shirley and Happy Days. BBC America has two Doctor Who sets out today, only one of which was aired before my 1979 cut-off: Doctor Who: Revenge of the Cybermen (story #79), a four-part story originally broadcast in April and May of 1975. The second set, Doctor Who: Silver Nemesis (story #154), aired in 1988.
