Every Tuesday I take a look at obscure and/or classic television programs, specials, miniseries or made-for-TV movies being released on DVD. For the record I consider anything broadcast prior to 1980 to be classic or else there wouldn’t be much to discuss. The releases referred to in these posts are encoded for Region 1 use in the United States and Canada.
Out today from Paramount Home Entertainment is The Andy Griffith Show 50th Anniversary: Best of Mayberry, a three-disc set containing 17 episodes from the first five seasons of The Andy Griffith Show. Extras include “Danny Meets Andy Griffith,” an episode of The Danny Thomas Show that introduced the character of Sheriff Andy Griffith, Return to Mayberry, a 1986 reunion telefilm and an assortment of sponsor spots and cast commercials. A review of the set can be found at the Home Theater Forum. Also out today, from Timeless Media Group, is The Virginian – The Complete Season Two, with all 30 episodes from the 1963-1964 season.
