Another year, another list of “new” obscurities: television programs that premiered in 2011 but aired 13 episodes or less (with a few exceptions). A number of new shows that premiered in the fall — including Unforgettable (CBS), A Gifted Man (CBS) and Whitney (NBC) — have been picked up for the remainder of the 2011-2012 season but appear unlikely to return for the 2012-2013 season, making them one-season wonders. Allen Gregory (FOX) and Terra Nova (FOX) have completed airing their first seasons and although no decisions have been made about renewal, Allen Gregory is all but cancelled while Terra Nova remains something of a toss-up. Prime Suspect (NBC), I Hate My Teenage Daughter (FOX) and Pan Am (ABC) still have episodes left to air in 2012 but no additional episodes have been ordered and cancellation is all but certain.
Some programs on the list, like The Cape (NBC), Friends with Benefits (NBC) and Perfect Couples (NBC), saw unaired episodes made available online. At least one, Mr. Sunshine (ABC), has been released on DVD.

I hope CBS changes their mind and renews A Gifted Man. It really is a great new show with a lot of potential. I know they changed the timeslot, maybe that will help its ratings. I know the timeslot (both old and new) are terrible for me. In fact, I’ve never even seen a single episode of this show as it airs. I’ve been watching it on dishonline(dot)com, which is a streaming site set-up by my employer, DISH. Actually that’s where I originally found A Gifted Man too. I just kind of stumbled on it while browsing the massive amount of content, which I definitely recommend since anyone (subscriber and non-subscriber alike), can view a lot of the programming on the site. And it’s not the first time I’ve found a show I really like on there that I probably wouldn’t have even heard of otherwise.
I’m sorry I missed watching an episode of The Paul Reiser Show, because it is already going down as one of the biggest bombs in TV history.
I believe NBC aired the last two produced episodes of PRIME SUSPECTS during the recent holidays.
I’ve watched those episodes of LOVE BITES on NBC FREE ON DEMAND this past summer.
The final episodes of ‘PRIME SUSPECT” aired opposite the Giants/San Francisco game this past Sunday, ‘PB’- which shows you how much the network actually cared about ending the series. If anyone tuned in- by accident- during the game, that was fine with them. Expect more brilliant programming decisions from them in the near future….
