  1. The Cotton Bowl of January 1, 1969 was one of only two college football games CBS broadcast in the 1968 season (the other being the Sun Bowl; which I believe was played December 31, 1968 in the afternoon).

    ABC had a monopoly on regular-season college football since the NCAA controlled all TV rights to that sport and ABC was the only broadcaster who could show live regular-season games.
