DVD Tuesday: Logan’s Run; Dark Shadows; Adam-12

Every Tuesday I take a look at obscure and/or classic television programs, specials, miniseries or made-for-TV movies being released on DVD. For the record I consider anything broadcast prior to 1980 to be classic or else there wouldn’t be much to discuss. The releases referred to in these posts are encoded for Region 1 use in the United States and Canada.

There are a slew of releases of interest to fans of classic television out today. Topping the list is Logan’s Run: The Complete Series from Warner Bros. Home Video., a three-disc set that includes all 14 episodes of the series that ran on CBS for 11 episodes during the 1977-1978 season (three additional episodes were not aired). MPI Home Video, meanwhile, is releasing Dark Shadows – The Complete Original Series: Limited Numbered Edition, a mammoth 131-DVD set containing 1,225 episodes (miraculously, only one episode of Dark Shadows, #1219, is missing and the audio for that episode does exist) and a variety of bonus features, clocking in at some 470 hours. It should be noted that this “limited edition” has sold out. A deluxe edition will be available July 10th (it will not include a postcard autographed by Jonathan Frid, who played Barnabas Collins, nor will it include a special serial number touting its limited status). Furthermore, the entire series has already been released on VHS and DVD.

Other releases out today include The Gene Autry Show: The Third And Fourth Seasons (Timeless Media Group), Laverne & Shirley – The Complete 5th Season (Paramount Home Video), Night Gallery – Season 3 (Universal Home Video), Adam-12 – Season 7 (Shout! Factory), Car 54, Where Are You? – The Complete 2nd Season (Shanachie Entertainment) (this release has been pushed back to April 24th; see this TVShowsOnDVD.com article for more information), and two more Doctor Who serials from BBC Video: “The Daemons” (Story #59, 1971, Jon Pertwee as The Doctor) and “Carnival of Monsters” (Story #66, 1973, Jon Pertwee as The Doctor).
