It’s that time again. The 2012-2013 television season begins in just over a month (on Monday, September 24th) and that means fall preview specials for various networks will be shown on local stations and, in at least one case, nationally over the next few weeks. As of this writing ABC and NBC have officially announced their specials while FOX’s has shown up in television listings online. Here’s a list of what and when you can watch:
This special will be hosted by Mario Batali, Michael Symon, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly and Daphne Oz, otherwise known as the hosts of ABC’s daytime talk show The Chew. As the title suggests, it will air in prime time on Sunday, September 2nd from 7-8PM. Read the full press release here.

Matthew Perry will host this presumably half-hour special which will not be seen nationally in prime time. Instead, it will be seen on local NBC affiliates through September 30th as well as cable channels, affiliate websites, NBC.com and selected American Airlines flights. Check your local listings. I haven’t found an official press release from FOX but television listings at Zap2It list a half-hour special said to be “a look at new and returning shows on Fox.” Check your local listings.

I find it a bit wary that the co-hosts of “THE CHEW” will be “pitching” ABC’s new Fall schedule in an hour-long special, while promoting their own show [does it REALLY deserve promotion, as well?]….still, they’re a lot better than having someone “redundant” like Tom Bergeron or Chris Harrison (or Jimmy Kimmel) presiding over this year’s preview…plus, the fact this preview is going to be telecast on the network, instead of locally- via their affiliates, at different times- is an improvement…..

The ‘2012 Fox Fall Preview Special’ is a half-hour affiliate special hosted by Mr. Ike Barinholtz, one of the stars of FOX’s ‘MADtv’, and this special begins rolling out in early September.
The ‘CBS Fall Preview Sneak Peek’ will be carried across the full CBS network on Monday September 10, 2012 at 8:30 pm. CBS is continuing its tradition of crossing-over with one of its series, and this year the honour goes to ‘Two Broke Girls’. The ‘CBS Fall Preview Sneak Peek’ this year will be hosted by the two stars of ‘Two Broke Girls’, Miss Kat Dennings and Miss Beth Behrs.
The ‘CW Fall First Look’ is a half-hour affiliate special that will feature the new fall and mid-season series coming up on The CW. CW affiliates commenced running this special Sunday August 19th.
