This short promotional spot for The Man from U.N.C.L.E. announces the show’s shift to Mondays at 8PM for the 1967-1968 season (its fourth and last). Actually, it was a shift back to Mondays at 8PM. In mid-season 1965, halfway through the show’s first season, NBC moved it from Tuesdays at 8:30PM to Mondays at 8PM. It was then moved to Fridays at 10PM for the 1965-1966 season and then to Fridays at 8:30PM for the 1966-1967 season.
This promo aired in August/September 1967, just before the season began. This one, as I’ve mentioned elsewhere, was “recycled” as a Monday daytime {“Tonight at 8, 7 Central Time”} promo, with different copy and staff announcer [Fred Collins, instead of Bill Wendell], after the new season began.
When the show was cancelled, LAUGH-IN replaced it. And, I remember seeing a short piece at the beginning of LAUGH-IN that only showed him briefly between LAUGH-IN’s announcer, Gary Owens saying “from beautiful down Burbank” to Mr. Waverly saying “unfortunately” then back to Gary saying “It’s LAUGH-IN!”. A very funny bit that I still remember after all of these years. LAUGH-IN was a great show, and it’s hard to believe that this was before the days of electronic editing, and all of the various segments were actually physically SPLICED from 2″ quad tape using a device that contained iron filings to find out where the splices needed to be on the tape! Talk about a lengthy process! Thanks, George Schlatter!
An early LAUGH-IN featured an inside joke…Leo G. Carroll as a butler in the Party Sketch, reporting to Napoleon and Iliya.
