DVD Tuesday: David Susskind Show; Lawless Years; Van Dyke and Company

Every Tuesday I take a look at obscure and/or classic television programs, specials, miniseries or made-for-TV movies being released on DVD or Blu-ray. For the record I consider anything broadcast prior to 1980 to be classic or else there wouldn’t be much to discuss. The releases referred to in these posts are encoded for Region 1 use in the United States and Canada.

Out today from MPI Home Video is Van Dyke and Company – The Complete Series, the Emmy award-winning yet short-lived variety series broadcast on NBC for just three months in the fall of 1976 (a pilot special, also included in the set, aired on October 30th, 1975). The set was originally scheduled to be released at some point in 2010 but for whatever reason(s) never was. Bonus features include excerpts from 1967 Dick Van Dyke special and a pair of Let’s Talk To Lucy radio shows from 1965.

Also out today, from Timeless Media Group, is The Lawless Years – The Complete Series, which includes all 47 episodes of the half-hour drama that ran on NBC from 1959 to 1961. Timeless previously released just the first season on DVD back in 2006.

And from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment comes Charlie’s Angels – The Complete Series, a 27-disc set containing all five seasons (the first four of which were released individually on DVD between 2003 and 2009).
