DVD Tuesday: Whiplash; Rawhide

Every Tuesday I take a look at obscure and/or classic television programs, specials, miniseries or made-for-TV movies being released on DVD or Blu-ray. For the record I consider anything broadcast prior to 1980 to be classic or else there wouldn’t be much to discuss. The releases referred to in these posts are encoded for Region 1 use in the United States and Canada.

Out today from Timeless Media Group is Whiplash – The Complete Series, a 4-disc set containing all 34 episodes of the syndicated Western that starred Peter Graves. Filmed in Australia, the half-hour series saw Graves portraying a fictionalized version of Freeman Cobb, the real-life American who co-founded a stagecoach company in Australia in the 1850s. The series debuted in syndication in 1961. Graves, of course, would later find fame playing Jim Phelps on Mission: Impossible from 1967 to 1973 (and again from 1988 to 1990 in the revived version).

Also out today, from Paramount Home Video, is the fifth season of Rawhide, spread across two sets: Rawhide – The Fifth Season, Volume 1 and Rawhide – The Fifth Season, Volume 2. The two sets together contain all all 29 episodes from the 1962-1963 season.
