DVD Tuesday: The Dick Van Dyke Show; Hawkins

Every Tuesday I take a look at obscure and/or classic television programs, specials, miniseries or made-for-TV movies being released on DVD or Blu-ray. For the record I consider anything broadcast prior to 1980 to be classic or else there wouldn’t be much to discuss. The releases referred to in these posts are encoded for Region 1 use in the United States and Canada.

Today’s Releases

There are a number of releases out today of interest to fans of classic television, chief among them being The Dick Van Dyke Show – The Complete Series on Blu-ray from Image Entertainment. In addition to high definition versions of all 158 episodes and bonus material originally released on DVD, this new set has its own new bonus features, including a 50th anniversary Q & A with Dick Van Dyke, Carl Reiner and Garry Marshall, a color test from the episode “”It May Look Like a Walnut,” and network promos.

Another complete series set out today is The Flintstones – The Complete Series from Warner Home Video. This is actually a re-release of a 2008 set with no new content. Also out today, from the Warner Archive, is Hawkins – The Complete TV Movie Collection, which includes the eight installments of Hawkins that aired as part of The New CBS Tuesday Night Movies during the 1973-1974 season. The series starred Jimmy Stewart. Finally, from Inception Media, comes The Real McCoys – Complete Season #2, which includes all 39 episodes from the 1958-1959 season.
