Help Compile a List of Network Fall Preview Specials

It’s mid-August and that means the new television season is a little over a month away. The 2013-2014 season officially starts on Monday, September 23rd. The networks should begin unveiling their fall preview specials soon. NBC has already announced “The 2013 NBC Primetime Preview Show”. As I have for the past few years, I’ll be covering all of the network fall preview specials for the upcoming season. It’s a fun annual tradition here at Television Obscurities.

I’m also working on revising my article on the history of the fall preview special. At one point I was planning on updating it annually to reflect the fall previews for each television season. But that didn’t last long and now I cover that in the blog. The article will focus more on the 1960s and 1970s. As a companion for the article, I’d like to put together as complete a list as possible of all network fall preview specials dating back to the early 1960s, broken down by season.

To help put this list together, I’m turning to the knowledgeable readers of Television Obscurities. When I was originally researching my article in 2004, I gathered information on all of the specials I could find for the 1960s and 1970s but sort of trailed off after that. And I’ve written about most of the specials for the 2010s as well. That leaves a pretty big gap covering the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. Those are the decades I need help with.

I know there are a lot of television fans out there who enjoy collecting old fall previews and I’m hoping some of them can help. But anybody who remembers watching a fall preview special or has magazine or newspaper clippings, please either hit the comments or e-mail me directly. Please be as specific as possible in terms of dates and hosts and whether the special aired nationally or was offered to affiliates to air whenever they pleased.

    Hi,
I remember that there was a 1965 CBS fall preview special hosted by Dick Van Dyke called “Seven Wonderful Nights”, however there are no youtube clips from this, your site doesn’t have any footage from this….would love to see the Lost in Space segment from this special.
