ABC, NBC to Cover 50th Anniversary of JFK Assassination

Earlier this month I wrote about how CBS plans to stream archival CBS News coverage of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination to mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination in November. Now, ABC has announced its plans to cover the 50th anniversary. The network’s various news programs will feature special stories about the anniversary throughout the week of November 17th.

ABC News Digital will also provide content across ABC’s online and digital platforms, including something called TV Hub, which “consists of seven archival videos that chronicle the assassination and the events that followed.” That doesn’t sound as potentially comprehensive as the CBS initiative, which “will feature the breaking news coverage from the four-day period following the shooting.” But we’ll have to wait and see. A complete press release can be found here.

NBC laid out its coverage of the anniversary several weeks ago, which I missed. The network will broadcast “Tom Brokaw Special: Where Were You?” on Friday, November 22nd, from 9-11PM. It will feature archival footage. NBCNews.com will feature “an interactive video experience” including footage from the NBC News archives. Finally, the network will offer a Meet the Press special called “MTP Remembers: JFK — The Presidential Campaign” to affiliates throughout November, consisting of three interviews with JFK during the 1960 presidential campaign. A full press release can be found here.

Suffice it to say, anyone wanting to watch 1963 news coverage of the JFK assassination and its aftermath is going to have plenty of options in a few weeks.
