2014’s Most Popular

I may be the only person interested in which articles were the most popular here at Television Obscurities in 2014. It is my website, after all. Honestly, I try not to obsess about site statistics, i.e. visitors, hits, and page views. It is frustrating, though, that I haven’t been able to greatly increase the number of visitors each month. That said, after three years of relative stagnation, 2014 saw pretty big jumps across the board in terms of activity. Anyway, here’s my annual look at the most popular aspects of Television Obscurities.

Top Ten Articles

For many years, my article about The New People was one of the most popular but it fell off the list last year. My article on “W*A*L*T*E*R” was the most popular this year, up dramatically from last year when it ranked 10th. It is one of only two articles to make the Top Ten every year since 2010; the other is 10 Of The Most Outlandish TV Concepts Ever.

  1. W*A*L*T*E*R
  2. The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams
  3. Irwin Allen’s Swiss Family Robinson
  4. The Young Rebels
  5. 10 Of The Most Outlandish TV Concepts Ever
  6. It’s A Man’s World
  7. SEARCH
  8. The Color Revolution: Television In The Sixties
  9. Mr. Lucky
  10. A Look At Star Trek

Top Ten Blog Posts (Posted in 2014)

In the past I’ve only compiled a list of the ten most viewed blog posts regardless of when they were originally posted. This time around I’ve decided to take a look first at the Top Ten blog posts that were actually posted in 2014. I’m not sure what to make of the fact that my April review of a TV tie-in novel for The Brady Bunch was the most viewed.

  1. Review: The Brady Bunch in the Treasure of Mystery Island (04/2014)
  2. New Spotlight: The Storefront Lawyers / Men at Law (02/2014)
  3. Kyle MacDonnell: TV’s Forgotten Star – Part 3 (08/2014)
  4. Me-TV Launches Summer of Me Schedule on May 26th (05/2014)
  5. Antenna TV’s Fall 2014 Schedule (08/2014)
  6. Me-TV’s Fall Schedule Debuts September 1st (08/2014)
  7. Was There a 1955 Lone Ranger Color Anniversary Special? (01/2014)
  8. Review: The Great TV Sitcom Book (05/2014)
  9. Review: The Sixties – Television Comes of Age (05/2014)
  10. Let’s Predict the First Cancellation of the 2014-2015 Season (09/2014)

Top Ten Blog Posts (Overall)

Interestingly, after weeding out several posts that were obviously targeted by spammers, the same post reviewing The Brady Bunch TV tie-in was also the overall most viewed blog post during 2014. But only two other posts from 2014 made the list. Note that three posts from 2010 were among the most viewed last year.

  1. Review: The Brady Bunch in the Treasure of Mystery Island (04/2014)
  2. 50 Years of The Andy Griffith Show (10/2010)
  3. A Review of Cozi TV (01/2013)
  4. New Spotlight: The Storefront Lawyers / Men at Law (02/2014)
  5. 10th Anniversary Celebration Kicks Off June 9th (06/2013)
  6. CBS Won’t Release Episodes of The Jack Benny Program (01/2010)
  7. WTMJ-TV Schedule, Week of November 30th, 1947 (04/2010)
  8. Let’s Predict the First Cancellation of the 2013-2014 Season (09/2013)
  9. CBS to Stream TV Coverage of JFK’s Assassination (10/2013)
  10. Kyle MacDonnell: TV’s Forgotten Star – Part 3 (08/2014)

Top Ten Search Phrases

I have absolutely no idea how or why “betac” was the most used search phrase. An incomplete version of “betacam,” it doesn’t appear anywhere at Television Obscurities. The others make much more sense but who knew John Vivyan was so popular?

  1. betac
  2. tv obscurities
  3. television obscurities
  4. metv summer schedule
  5. antenna tv schedule
  6. john vivyan
  7. pepito perez
  8. gilligan s island pilot
  9. me tv summer schedule 2014
  10. me tv fall schedule

Other Interesting Search Phrases

I always get a kick out of seeing some of the more unusual ways visitors find Television Obscurities. Every year there are several variations of the It’s About Time theme song. This year there weren’t any really bizarre search phrases, but here are some interesting ones:

  • what happened to radar after mash
  • how has the colour tv upgraded
  • green acres hawaiian honeymoon
  • when will the green hornet tv series be released on dvd
  • it s about time it s about space it s about time to wash your face
