WNBT Schedule, Week of May 11th, 1947

Here’s the schedule for WNBT (NBC’s flagship TV station in New York City) for the week starting Sunday, May 11th, 1947. The New York Times published daily listings for television stations in the city, including WNBT, alongside its comprehensive radio listings.

WNBT only had one baseball game scheduled this week, on Sunday (May 11th). The afternoon game pitted the New York Giants against the Boston Braves. Another installment of At Home with Tex and Jinx aired at 8PM ET, followed by a tennis clinic.

The 1936 film Idaho Kid, starring Rex Bell, Marion Shilling, and David Sharpe, aired at 8PM ET on Monday (May 12th).

On Tuesday (May 13th), WNBT televised the opening of a special Radio Corporation of America exhibition at 36th West Forty-ninth Street. It featured television and other devices, including an electron microscope. At the time, NBC was a subsidiary of RCA.

Kraft Television Theatre presented “Merton of the Movies,” starring Eddie Mayehoff, on Wednesday (May 14th).

Brothers Nick and Charles Kenny, both poets and songwriters, were guests on the Thursday (May 15th) variety show hosted by Harriet Van Horne and James Beard.

WNBT broadcast a mock air raid at noon on Friday (May 16th). WCBS also carried the air raid. At 1PM, WNBT debuted a new afternoon lineup with the premiere of The Swift Home Service Club. Tex McCrary and Jinx Falkenburg were the hosts. Sponsored by Swift & Co., the series initially aired only on WNBT. Swift became the first “full-network” sponsor when the series began airing on WNBW and WPTZ in November.
