WNBT Schedule, Week of July 13th, 1947

Here’s the schedule for WNBT (NBC’s flagship TV station in New York City) for the week starting Sunday, July 13th, 1947. The New York Times published daily listings for television stations in the city, including WNBT, alongside its comprehensive radio listings.

WNBT scheduled six baseball games this week. The first aired at 2PM on Sunday (July 13th) and pitted the New York Giants against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Later that night, the station aired Ringside with Tex and Jinx and Party Line from 8-8:50PM. The New York Times listed Sunday Supper Club at 9PM. See this post for more information about the revolving set of four different shows sponsored by Borden on Sundays during the summer of 1947.

Scheduled for 2:25PM on Monday (July 14th) was another Giants-Pirates baseball game. Later that night, WNBT aired coverage of horse trotting races (also known as harness races) in Long Island.

A baseball game between the Giants and the Chicago Cubs was scheduled for 8:40PM on Tuesday (July 15th). Another Giants-Cubs game was scheduled for 2:25PM on Wednesday (July 16th). That evening, Kraft Television Theatre and In the Kelvinator Kitchen aired as usual.

On Thursday (July 17th), a third Giants-Cubs baseball game was scheduled for 1:25PM. At 8PM, recently-introduced Author Meets the Critics featured Lilly Dache as guest. At 8:30PM, Hobby Lobby aired for the second week in a row. I have no idea what this program was.

The only day this week when WNBT didn’t have a baseball game scheduled was Friday (July 18th). The Saturday (July 19th) game at 2:25PM pitted the Giants against the Cincinnati Reds. At 5PM, WNBT broadcast swimming finals from Flushing Meadows in Long Island.

  • James Shell says:

Sports had already become a staple of TV programming by 1947. And there were still a lot of day games during the week back then.
