WNBT Schedule, Week of August 31st, 1947

Here’s the schedule for WNBT (NBC’s flagship TV station in New York City) for the week starting Sunday, August 31st, 1947. The New York Times published daily listings for television stations in the city, including WNBT, alongside its comprehensive radio listings.

The 1947 Convention of The American Legion concluded on Sunday (August 31st) with WNBT on hand to televise morning business meetings. That afternoon, the station aired tennis matches from Forest Hills. Then came the regular evening lineup consisting of Ringside with Tex and Jinx and Party line, followed by a variety show at 9PM ET and the 1943 movie Hangmen Also Die at 9:30PM ET.

A baseball game scheduled for Monday (September 1st) afternoon saw the New York Giants face off against the Boston Braves. That evening, WNBT aired a film called Fighting Sea Monsters and more trotting races from Roosevelt Raceway.

No programs were scheduled for Tuesday (September 2nd).

For the first time in weeks, The New York Times published the episode title for Kraft Television Theatre on Wednesday (September 3rd). Later that night, a football game between the Eastern College All-Stars and the New York Giants aired. Yes, in 1947 there were both baseball and football teams named the New York Giants.

Politician Edward J. Flynn was the guest on Author Meets the Critics on Thursday (September 4th). The New York Giants baseball team faced the Brooklyn Dodgers that night.
