TV Guide – Behind the Scenes of the 1964-1965 Season
August 22nd, 1964 – “Making Quite a Splash in a New Series”
It would have been incredible. The beautiful Judy Carne, water skiing during the opening credits to The Baileys of Balboa. But things didn’t quite work out the way the producers had planned. Judy Carne couldn’t water ski:
Judy tried and tried. For two whole days she tried–putting on her life preserver, getting up on the skis, tumbling off, getting dried off and starting all over again. The best she could do was to get up to a 45-degree angle before going plop. She even pulled a muscle in her forearm, she tried so hard. Said Judy, finally, after the sequence was called off, “I guess I managed to get up a little, but I looked so horrid they decided to just let me wave from the back of the boat.”
But even that didn’t wind up in the final sequence. Ultimately, Judy stood on the beach and waved.
