Celebrating 10 Years of Television Obscurities

Today marks the tenth anniversary of the relaunch of Television Obscurities on June 11th, 2003. I posted yesterday about the pre-history and original version of the website and later today I’ll be taking a look back at the past decade. I may be overdoing it a bit with these anniversary posts but this is a pretty big deal for me. Ten years is more than a third of my life.

A decade is a long time any way you cut it but in the world of television it’s an eternity. There aren’t a lot of shows that have lasted ten years. Ten seasons have come and gone since June 2003. That’s a lot of quick cancellations and one season wonders. A lot of new obscurities.

I want to thank all the people who have visited this site since 2003, each and every person who has e-mailed me over the past ten years, and the hundreds of readers who have left thousands of comments since the blog was started in November 2008. Over the years I’ve been able to help a lot of people identify shows they watched when they were kids. I’ve been thrilled and happy to do it. And I truly appreciate all the kind words and compliments I’ve received.

Here’s to another ten years of watching and writing about obscure television.

  1. Ten years is also a very long time on the Internet. In addition to developing new content over a decade, anyone who has been around that long has to keep changing the mechanics of the site, itself, in order to keep up with technology. This explains why many sites don’t last this long.

    1. That’s a good point. I’ve had to go back and redo the video clips at least four times over the past ten years as formats have changed. If they were all still RealMedia files I doubt many people would be able to view them. So it was a necessity to reformat them but a time consuming one.
