Space Rangers is Coming to DVD

According to TVShowsOnDVD.com, short-lived CBS science-fiction series Space Rangers is coming to DVD in October courtesy of Mill Creek Entertainment. The hour-long series was set in the year 2104 and followed the adventures of a team of “Space Rangers” sworn to protect distant Earth colonies. It starred Jeff Kaake, Marjorie Monaghan, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and others.

Has it really been more than twenty years since Space Rangers premiered on January 6th, 1993? Wow. It was cancelled shortly after its debut. A total of six episodes were produced but only four were aired. CBS decided to broadcast them out of order, with the pilot the fourth and last episode to air. Here‘s a good episode guide.

The series was released on VHS in 1994, edited into three “chronicles” each combining two episodes. I rented at least one of the tapes back in the late 1990s and later purchased the complete set, although to be honest I think they’re still shrink-wrapped. A DVD set was released in the U.K. in 2004 and in Germany in 2011. ION Television aired these chronicles in a four-hour block on May 24th, 2008.

It may not be an obscurity a lot of people were clamoring to see on DVD but personally I am looking forward to seeing the episodes as they were originally presented. For just $9.98, all six episodes of Space Rangers can be yours on October 15th. I for one can’t wait.
