December 2015: The Month in Home Media

The Month in Home Media is a monthly column highlighting short-lived or rare television series, specials, miniseries or made-for-TV movies released on DVD or Blu-ray during the previous month, as well as recent additions to streaming services like Warner Archive Instant. The releases discussed in this column are encoded for Region 1 use in the United States and Canada. The Month in Home Media is published on the first Thursday of each month.

Not a single short-lived or rare TV show was released on DVD or Blu-ray in December 2015. There was a little bit of news, however, and some streaming additions. Hulu added five unaired episodes of Wicked City (ABC, 2015) while Warner Archive Instant added the first season of The Eleventh Hour (NBC, 1962-1964).

DVD/Blu-ray Releases

There were no short-lived TV shows released on DVD in December 2015.

DVD/Blu-ray News

Mill Creek Entertainment will re-release My Big Fat Greek Life (CBS, 2003) on DVD on March 1st. The short-lived series ran for just seven episodes and was originally released on DVD back in November 2003 (TVShowsOnDVD.com).

The Brady Kids is coming to DVD for the first time on February 16th courtesy of CBS/Paramount. The 3-disc set will include all 22 episodes of the Saturday morning cartoon (TVShowsOnDVD.com).

Streaming/Downloads

Hulu added five unaired episodes of ABC’s Wicked City last month. The crime drama premiered on October 27th, 2015 and lasted just three episodes before the network pulled the plug. It was the first cancellation of the 2015-2016 season.

The first season of The Eleventh Hour (NBC, 1962-1964) has been added to Warner Archive Instant. The hour-long drama ran for two seasons and 62 episodes so it’s not a one season wonder but it is relatively forgotten so I’m comfortable including it here. The first season starred Wendell Corey and Jack Ging. Corey was replaced by Ralph Bellamy for the second season.

Hit the comments with any news about upcoming DVD/Blu-ray releases or additions to streaming services.

  1. I am glad to see The Eleventh Hour (1962-1964) on Warner Archives. I am watching it now. I hope they will consider including also the 2nd season. It was my favorite TV show when I was a young teen in High School.
I saw Jack Ging in a stage production of “Mr. Roberts” when he came to Indianapolis in 1963. I had a crush on him. My dad took me to see him perform in the play and we sat on the front row.
I wrote to Jack Ging in 1998 and sent him that original playbill and he autographed it for me. I still like him today.. I think he is such a kind and gentle man who relates to his audience.
