WNBT Schedule, Week of August 24th, 1947

Here’s the schedule for WNBT (NBC’s flagship TV station in New York City) for the week starting Sunday, August 24th, 1947. The New York Times published daily listings for television stations in the city, including WNBT, alongside its comprehensive radio listings.

WNBT had a busy week as August 1947 came to a close. In addition to baseball games on five days, the station also offered three days of coverage of the 1947 National Convention of The American Legion. Two baseball games between the New York Giants and the Chicago Cubs kicked off the week on Sunday (August 24th). A comedy called “A Scotch Dilemma” aired later that night, starring Frank Thomas.

Another Giants-Chicago baseball game aired during the afternoon on Monday (August 25th). A 1938 movie called Breaking the Ice, starring Bobby Breen, aired that evening, followed by trotting races from Roosevelt Raceway.

On Tuesday (August 26th), the Giants faced the Cubs once again. The Wednesday (August 27th) baseball game saw the Giants playing the St. Louis Cardinals.

The 27th annual American Legion convention began on Thursday (August 28th) in New York City. WNBT aired coverage of Governor Dewey’s speech as well as a parade and a special dinner held at the Waldorf-Astoria. The second installment of panel discussion Leave It to the Girls also aired on Thursday, followed by Author Meets the Critics.

Additional coverage of the American Legion convention aired on Friday (August 29th), including a drum and bugle corps contest. On Saturday (August 30th), WNBT interrupted its lengthy broadcast of the American Legion parade to air the Davis Cup tennis finals.
