Here’s a promotional spot for special New Year’s Day programming airing Wednesday, January 1st, 1969 on CBS, which included the following:

10:30AM 12th Annual Cotton Bowl Festival Parade
11:30AM Tournament of Roses Parade
 1:45PM Cotton Bowl (Texas vs. Tennessee)

  1. The Cotton Bowl of January 1, 1969 was one of only two college football games CBS broadcast in the 1968 season (the other being the Sun Bowl; which I believe was played December 31, 1968 in the afternoon).

    ABC had a monopoly on regular-season college football since the NCAA controlled all TV rights to that sport and ABC was the only broadcaster who could show live regular-season games.
