DVD Tuesday: Casablanca (1983)

Every Tuesday I take a look at obscure and/or classic television programs, specials, miniseries or made-for-TV movies being released on DVD or Blu-ray. For the record I consider anything broadcast prior to 1980 to be classic or else there wouldn’t be much to discuss. The releases referred to in these posts are encoded for Region 1 use in the United States and Canada.

The only release of note out today is Casablanca – The Complete Series from Olive Films. This isn’t the 1955 version but instead the 1983 version starring David Soul, Hector Elizondo, Ray Liotta and Scatman Crothers. It aired on NBC for five episodes (three in the spring of 1983 and two in the late summer). That means it aired after my 1979 cutoff but I’m including it anyway because at just five episodes it is a bit surprising to see it released on DVD. As for the 1955 version, an apparently edited first episode has been included on at least two DVD sets for the film Casablanca.
