Last month, CBS News announced how it planned to cover the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy’s assignation. The network’s various news programs will all feature stories about the anniverary and CBS will air a prime time special on Saturday, November 16th. It was also announced that CBSNews.com would “stream the original CBS News broadcast coverage of Kennedy’s assassination in real-time as it evolved 50 years ago.”
At the time, there was some uncertainty about exactly what that meant. Would CBSNews.com stream all the November 1963 CBS News coverage of the assassination and its aftermath or just highlights? Today, CBS News confirmed that it will be streaming all of the coverage:
CBSNews.com’s special four-day anniversary online stream will begin at 1:40 PM ET on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 with the first breaking network television news bulletin alerting viewers shots had been fired in Dallas.
CBSNews.com will then stream the CBS News coverage, including the first report from legendary anchor Walter Cronkite and the extraordinary broadcasts from New York, Dallas, Washington and around the world as it unfolded over four days, culminating with the president’s funeral.
The historic coverage will continue through the weekend, ending Monday, Nov. 25 with coverage of the president’s funeral and other news of that days.
This doesn’t mean that CBSNews.com will be streaming video continuously from 1:40PM on Friday until some point on Monday, November 25th. The network broadcast an estimated 55-56 hours of coverage of the assassination, aftermath and funeral over the course of those four fateful days in November 1963. The network wasn’t on the air 24/7. It signed off each night and signed on again the following morning.
The streaming video will be found here beginning at 1:40PM on Friday, November 22nd. I’m sure there are already people trying to figure out how to record the video.

Did you record the CBS 60-hr. web stream coverage of the assassination last weekend ?
No I did not (nor did I attempt to, truth be told). Unfortunately I am not aware of anyone who was able to successfully record the live stream.
