Here’s an index to the biweekly Nielsen Top 10 charts from the 1955-1956 season. Each Nielsen report covered two weeks and listed both the Top 10 programs by households and the Top 10 by rating. Both lists include programs averages from both weeks, except for specials or program pre-emptions.

Note: Prior to July 1960, Nielsen ratings were not based on the total number of television households in the United States. From 1950 to 1953, ratings were a percentage of households in cities/markets in which the program was broadcast. From 1953 to 1960, ratings were a percentage of households capable of viewing a program.
*The week of October 23rd-29th, 1955 was a Nielsen “Black Week” when programs were not rated.
**The week of February 19th-25th, 1956 was a Nielsen “Black Week” as well.
