The New People was an ABC drama series that ran for 17 episodes from September 1969 to January 1970. It was about a group of college students stranded on an island formerly used for nuclear testing. They had shelter, food and supplies, but no way of contacting the outside world. Left to fend for themselves, they attempted to build a new society, better than the one they had left behind. This exhibit presents a selection of pages from both issues of The New People comic book. The first was published in January 1970 and the second in May 1970, months after the series had gone off the air. Each issue contains two original stories:

Issue #1 (January 1970)
“For the Guilt of One” – One of the new people claims ownership of an abandoned ship that washes ashore.
“Sole Survivor” – Only one man is left standing after an illness strikes the island.

Issue #2 (May 1970)
“So Close…So Far” – A man who doesn’t want the survivors to be rescued tries to sabotage efforts to contact help.
“Odd Man Out” – The survivors are shocked when a mysterious stranger begins stalking one of the women on the island.

Both issues were released in Mexico through publisher Organización Editorial Novaro as part of the TV Mundial (Worldwide TV) title. Issue #189, originally published in February 1971, was a reprint of the first Dell issue. The title, “Generación de Valientes,” roughly translates to “Brave Generation.” Issue #202, originally published in August 1971, reprinted the second Dell comic. Its title, “Los Atrapados,” translates to “The Catched Ones.”

It is possible that the two Dell issues were reprinted in other countries as well.
