    The Mod Squad Promotional Spot

Here’s a promotional spot for ABC’s The Mod Squad. I believe it is from the 1970-1971 season but I don’t know for sure.

One Response to “The Mod Squad Promotional Spot”

    1. Barry I. Grauman Says:

This ISN’T from 1970-’71; the network’s slogan that fall season was “Let’s Get Together on ABC”. This is from the beginning of the 1971-’72 season, as that year’s slogan/jingle was “This Is the Place To Be”. That was also the season “THE MOD SQUAD” continued to appear at 7:30pm(et) on Tuesday nights, despite the FCC’s insistance that all three networks conform to only three hours of prime-time programming every evening in the fall of ‘71. While ABC, CBS and NBC decided to begin most of their evening schedules at 8pm(et), “THE MOD SQUAD” was the #1 show at 7:30, and ABC didn’t want to move it- and the other networks didn’t want to start their Tuesday schedules at 8pm BECAUSE of “THE MOD SQUAD”s popularity. So 7:30-10:30pm(et) became the networks’ “prime-time grid” on Tuesdays that fall [which involved getting a special waiver from the FCC to do so], while CBS countered with “THE GLEN CAMPBELL GOODTIME HOUR” (which was gone after the spring of ‘72), and NBC with an “IRONSIDE” spin-off, “SARGE” (starring George Kennedy)- which didn’t last long. Ultimately, “THE MOD SQUAD” moved to 8pm the following season…and was cancelled in 1973, after five seasons.
