  1. Ivan Tors produced this series at the time he was also responsible for “DAKTARI”, “GENTLE BEN” and “MAYA”; as with his other ’60s series (including “FLIPPER”), the original pilot was released theatrically, starring a different lead actor- in this case, Hugh O’Brian [in “AFRICA- TEXAS STYLE!”]: Chuck Connors succeeded him in the series. For those who “came in late”, it aired on Mondays at 7:30pm(et), opposite CBS’ “GUNSMOKE” [which found its “second wind” after it was almost cancelled the previous season] and NBC’s combo of “THE MONKEES” and the first half of “THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.”. But “GUNSMOKE” rebounded so fast in the ratings, “U.N.C.L.E” was replaced by “ROWAN & MARTIN’S LAUGH-IN” in January ’68, and cancelled at the end of the season were “THE MONKEES” {although it was their decision to “pull the plug” on their show}…and “COWBOY IN AFRICA”.

This, incidentally, looks more like a teaser for “scenes from upcoming episodes” than an ABC network promo.
