New Article: Slattery’s People

Just in time for the holidays I’ve finished my latest article, an in-depth look at Slattery’s People, a CBS drama series that deserves far more recognition than it has received since it went off the air almost fifty years ago. Here’s the summary:

Slattery’s People was one of the most critically acclaimed new series of the 1964-1965 season. The series starred Richard Crenna as the minority leader in a state legislature as he tackled all manner of problems and concerns relating to his district. Unfortunately, viewers did not tune in. Nevertheless, CBS stood by the series, shifting it to a new day in an attempt to shore up ratings and renewing it for the remainder of the season. Then, in a surprising turn of events, the series was renewed for the 1965-1966 only weeks after having been given up for dead. Several changes made during the summer of 1965 were intended to make the series more interesting and exciting but failed to draw new viewers. Only weeks into the new season CBS cancelled the series for good.

You can leave any comments about the series at the article.
