I’m surprised to see some of these programs listed here, like ODD COUPLE & STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO. Obviously their ratings improved a lot, as did THE WALTONS, which ended up beating Flip Wilson’s show in the ratings before long.
Yes, “The Waltons” was predicted to barely last 13 weeks against “The Flip Wilson Show.” It was one of those rare shows that became a big hit against all odds.
This, the debut episode, was beaten by FLIP WILSON and THE MOD SQUAD.
THE ODD COUPLE survived five seasons on ABC without being a world beater–Tony Randall did give a raspberry to them when accepting an Emmy for playing Felix, post-cancellation.
I think ABC would have been thrilled if they were the network of All In The Family.
Oops. Thanks for the correction.
Really weird seeing The Waltons here considering how successful it would become.
