WNBT Schedule, Week of September 7th, 1947

Here’s the schedule for WNBT (NBC’s flagship TV station in New York City) for the week starting Sunday, September 7th, 1947. The New York Times published daily listings for television stations in the city, including WNBT, alongside its comprehensive radio listings.

Both Ringside with Tex and Jinx and Party Line ended the previous week, leaving WNBT with a gap in its Sunday evening schedule. On September 7th, the station aired an installment of NBC Television Theatre at 9PM followed by an unidentified variety show at 9PM. Earlier, the New York Giants faced off against the Brooklyn Dodgers in an afternoon baseball game at 3PM.

On Monday (September 8th), WNBT aired the 1940 film West of Pinto Basin. The station was off the air on Tuesday (September 9th).

Coverage of National Amateur Tennis Matches began on Wednesday (September 10th) and continued through the rest of the week. The Wednesday evening lineup of Kraft Television Theatre and In the Kelvinator Kitchen aired as usual from 7:30PM to 9PM ET.

On Thursday (September 11th), Merle Miller and Edwin J. Lukas discussed David Davidson’s novel The Steeper Cliff on Author Meets the Critics. Presumably, Davidson also appeared on the broadcast alongside moderator John K.M. McCaffery.

The 1941 film Scattergood Baines aired in place of the regular boxing bout on Friday (September 12th) night.

On Saturday (September 13th), a half-hour “NBC Presentation Film” aired from 3:30-4PM ET. Then came more tennis coverage. At 8PM ET that evening, WNBT aired something relating to the Mineola Fair. Whether this was live coverage or a film is unknown.
