September 2017: The Month in Home Media

The Month in Home Media highlights short-lived or rare TV shows released on DVD or Blu-ray in the United States during the previous month. Support Television Obscurities

September 2017 saw the release of Angie (ABC, 1979-1980) and Movin’ On (NBC, 1974-1976) on DVD. Recent obscurities The Astronaut Wives Club (ABC, 2015), Ransom (CBS, 2017), and Chicago Justice (NBC, 2017) also came out on DVD. Support Television Obscurities by purchasing any of these releases from Amazon.

Also, Amazon Prime began streaming episodes of several game shows last month, including Tattlestales, Card Sharks and Press Your Luck. Plus, PBS documentary series America in Primetime and Pioneers of Television.

Highlight of the Month: Movin’ On

Both seasons of NBC drama Movin’ On are now available on DVD. The series starred Claude Akins and Frank Converse as truckers meeting adventure wherever they went. It ran for two seasons and 44 episodes from 1974 to 1976.

For the record, these are manufacture-on-demand sets. Also, neither season includes the pilot telefilm In Tandem.

Kino Lorber has announced plans to release The Master (NBC, 1984) on both DVD and Blu-ray. No details on date or price are available at the moment. The series starred Lee Van Cleef, Timothy Van Patten, and Sho Kosugi. It ran for just 13 episodes (TVShowsOnDVD.com).

VEI will release Special Unit 2 (UPN, 2001-2002) on DVD on October 6th. First announced years ago, the complete series set will include all 19 episodes. Michael Landes, Alexondra Lee, Danny Woodburn, and
Richard Gant starred (TVShowsOnDVD.com).
