75 Years of Connecticut Television

The first television station in Connecticut went on the air 75 years ago today. WNHC-TV, Channel 6, began broadcasting on Tuesday, June 15th, 1948. Initially affiliated with the DuMont Television Network, WNHC-TV relayed programs from WABD-TV in New York City. By May 1949, the station was also affiliated with ABC, CBS, and NBC. WNHC-TV moved to channel 8 in 1953 and changed its call letters to WTNH-TV in 1971.

Connecticut wouldn’t get its second television station until February 1953 when WKNB-TV (now WVIT) signed on the air.
