Will Hutchins (1930-2025)

Actor Will Hutchins, who starred in Sugarfoot on ABC from 1957 to 1961, died Monday (April 21) at the age of 94. Sugarfoot produced 69 episodes during its four seasons on the air, rotating in its time slot with fellow Warner Bros. productions Cheyenne or Bronco.

Fans of obscure television may know Hutchins for his starring role in one season wonder Hey, Landlord! (NBC, 1966-1967) alongside Sandy Baron. He later played Dagwood Bumstead in the short-lived CBS sitcom Blondie, which starred Patricia Harty as the title character. It was the second television adaptation of Chic Young’s comic strip and ran for just 13 episodes during the 1968-1969 TV season.

Obituaries can be found at The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline Hollywood.

  1. I’m pretty sure my family watched Hey Landlord when I was a kid, and I thought it was funny, though I might not be amused by it today. I remember Will Hutchins best from reruns of Sugarfoot I saw as an adult. When I heard he had died I came here and searched for anything about him, and discovered a Sugarcoat film clip but, alas, it wasn’t working. Thank you for remembering him with this memorial.

  2. Hutchins tested the waters// at least one ELVIS flick to his credit..He had an odd-ball appearance too.. arms were proportionally too short//he had an androgenous pretty-boy look.. didn’t sing or dance at all… He wasn’t thought of the next Steve Mcqueen or Paul Newman oh boy………..
