New Digital Specialty Network WEST Launches September 29

Add another classic TV digital specialty network to the mix starting Monday, September 29th. That’s when Weigel Broadcasting will launch Western Entertainment Series Television (aka WEST) in 46 markets covering just over 55% of the country. Weigel already operates a bunch of digital specialty networks mostly dedicated to classic TV, including MeTV, Catchy Comedy (formerly Decades), MeTV Toons, and Heroes & Icons.

WEST will feature more than 25 mostly classic Western TV shows at launch, including Bonanza, Gunsmoke, The Wild Wild West, Wagon Train, The High Chaparral, Daniel Boone, The Big Valley, and Rawhide. The Waltons is also included, despite not being a traditional Western. Two somewhat more recent shows will also be on the schedule: Guns of Paradise (CBS, 1988-1991) and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman (CBS, 1993-1998).

None of the shows announced so far are obscurities and even the few that only ran two seasons, like The Californians, Iron Horse, and Lancer, can hardly be considered forgotten. Perhaps in the future WEST will offer more obscure fare.
