WNBT Schedule, Week of May 18th, 1947

Here’s the schedule for WNBT (NBC’s flagship TV station in New York City) for the week starting Sunday, May 18th, 1947. The New York Times published daily listings for television stations in the city, including WNBT, alongside its comprehensive radio listings.

There were no baseball games scheduled this week. WNBT did have a soccer game scheduled on Sunday (May 18th), however. The game pitted the Palestine Hapoel team against a New York All-Stars team. Later that evening, At Home with Tex and Jinx and an unidentified feature film aired.

On Monday (May 19th), WNBT aired the 1940 western/mystery film The Range Busters, starring Ray Corrigan, John “Dusty” King, and Max Terhune.

No programs were scheduled for Tuesday (May 20th).

The Wednesday (May 21st) lineup included a pair of recently introduced shows: dramatic anthology Kraft Television Theatre and In the Kelvinator Kitchen with Alma Kitchel.

On Thursday (May 22nd), The Wife Saver debuted on WNBT. General Foods sponsored the half-hour comedic home improvement series for a six-episode run. WNBT relayed all or some of the episodes to WPTZ in Philadelphia and WRGB in Schenectady, NY. Based on a long-running radio show of the same name, it featured helpful tips for housewives. Allen Prescott hosted from a studio set made up to look like a kitchen.

Another recently introduced show, Swift Home Service Club, aired on Friday (May 23rd) at 1PM. Something called “Ladies’ Matinee” followed at 1:30PM. Later that evening, WNBT aired its regular lineup of Campus Hoopla, World in Your Home, and boxing from St. Nicholas Arena.

Finally, an unidentified film aimed at children aired Saturday (May 24th) at 2:30PM.

  1. It’s interesting that they program an Children’s show on Saturday. That leads into the Saturday Morning programming of the 1950s.
