WNBT Schedule, Week of March 9th, 1947

Here’s the schedule for WNBT (NBC’s flagship TV station in New York City) for the week starting Sunday, March 9th, 1947. The New York Times published daily listings for television stations in the city, including WNBT, alongside its comprehensive radio listings.

WNBT aired another installment of NBC Television Theater on Sunday, March 9th. “Feathers in a Gale” starred William Post and Maxine Stuart, among others.

All three stations in New York City (WNBT, WCBS, and WABD) carried live coverage of President Truman’s address to Congress on Wednesday, March 12th. In his speech, the President announced the United States would offer financial support to Greece and Turkey. The new policy, an effort to counter Soviet influence in the region, later became known as the Truman Doctrine. Coverage of the address may have also aired live on the early networks that existed in early 1947.

With variety show Hour Glass cancelled (Standard Brands ends its sponsorship the previous week), WNBT may have had to scramble to find programs to broadcast on Thursday, March 13th. An unidentified fashion show aired from 8-8:15PM ET followed by Ski News at 8:15PM, then In Town Today from 8:20-8:35PM. In Town Today took viewers into the city with live pickups. It debuted at some point in 1946. I’m not sure if it had a regular time slot. A film (What’s New in New York) ran from 8:35-8:38PM, followed immediately by You Are An Artist. Another income tax quiz program capped off the night at 9PM.

Yet another unidentified feature film aired on Saturday, March 15th.
