WNBT Schedule, Week of April 27th, 1947

Here’s the schedule for WNBT (NBC’s flagship TV station in New York City) for the week starting Sunday, April 27th, 1947. The New York Times published daily listings for television stations in the city, including WNBT, alongside its comprehensive radio listings.

WNBT had a full week, with four baseball games scheduled (only two actually aired) plus several special broadcasts. Sunday (April 27th) saw the launch of At Home with Tex and Jinx. Sponsored by Bristol-Myers, the talk show featured husband-and-wife team Tex McCrary and Jinx Falkenburg interviewing celebrities and showing film shorts. WNBT relayed the series to WPTZ and WRGB. At Home with Tex and Jinx replaced Tele-varieties (also known as Bristol-Myers Tele-varieties). The hosts of that show? Tex and Jinx.

Sunday also saw WNBT broadcast another installment of NBC Television Theater (“Twelfth Night”).

On Monday (April 28th), WNBT signed on at 11AM to cover the first day of a special session of the United Nations General Assembly devoted to the Palestine situation. The meeting took place at Flushing Meadow, Queens. WCBS-TV also carried coverage.

WNBT went on the air on Tuesday (April 29th) for a baseball game between the New York Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals. Later that afternoon, the station covered President Truman greeting President Miguel Aleman of Mexico at Washington National Airport. Both WCBS-TV and WABD also covered President Aleman’s arrival in the United States.

On Wednesday (April 30th), WNBT signed on for another Giants-Cardinals baseball game.

A speech by President Aleman of Mexico aired in the afternoon on Thursday (May 1st). Although the listings don’t specify, this may have been Aleman’s address to a joint session of Congress.

The baseball games pitting the Giants against the Pittsburgh Pirates–scheduled for Friday (May 2nd) and Saturday (May 3rd)–were both rained out.
