June 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of television in Connecticut. To celebrate, each Friday this month I’ll share two or three local promotional spots, commercials, or other videos spotlighting Connecticut TV.
From the Television Obscurities YouTube channel, here’s a commercial for Amazing Stores, a defunct chain of discount stores in Connecticut. It features Mr. Amazing, played by one of the chain’s owners. Founded in the mid-1970s, the chain had locations in Bloomfield, Norwalk, Danbury, Orange, Waterbury, Enfield, and Manchester. This particular commercial is from December 1992. The last Amazing Stores locations closed in December 1994.
I used to shop in the Bloomfield Amazing store! Good memories!!
