Early Ithaca College Radio/TV Students Reminiscence About Rod Serling

Last month, more than 25 alumni from the early Radio/TV program (late 1960s/early 1970s) at Ithaca College reunited on campus. Known as “The Tubes,” many of these alumni had Rod Serling as a visiting professor. Current students conducted interviews with these alumni and the college uploaded a compilation of stories about Serling to YouTube.

Take a look:

I attended Ithaca College several decades after Serling’s death in 1975. His presence was still felt, particularly at the Roy H. Park School of Communications. I will never forget the first time I saw several of Serling’s Emmy Awards on display.

During the inaugural Rod Serling Conference at Ithaca College in 2006, the late Professor John Keshishoglou shared his memories of working with Rod Serling. He was the keynote speaker at the 2008 conference, giving a presentation titled “Rod Serilng as a Teacher at Ithaca College” that I believe included segments of videotaped talks Serling had with students that were truly fascinating. I can online imagine what it felt like to be a student learning from the man who created The Twilight Zone.
