Singer and actor Bobby Sherman died earlier this week (June 24) at the age of 81. He was a regular a singer on ABC’s musical variety series Shindig!, which ran from September 1964 to January 1966. But it was his starring role on ABC’s Here Come the Brides alongside Robert Brown and David Soul that skyrocketed him to fame. The series debuted in September 1968 and ran for two seasons.
Sherman juggled filming Here Come the Brides with his singing career, releasing multiple albums and singles. After Here Come the Brides ended, Sherman guest-starred in a March 1971 episode of The Partridge Family that served as a backdoor pilot for his own sitcom, Getting Together.

Joining Sherman on Getting Together was Wes Stern. The two played aspiring songwriters. Scheduled opposite All in the Family on CBS, Getting Together failed to attract an audience and went off the air in January 1971 after just 14 episodes.
A few years later, Sherman walked away from show business. He later became an emergency medical technician and worked with the Los Angeles Police Department as an instructor and eventually as a reserve police officer. He briefly returned to touring from 1998 to 2001.
Obituaries can be found at Variety, CNN, and The Hollywood Reporter.

As a child I had a huge crush on Bobby Sherman. As an adult I was pleased to learn he’d become an EMT and a police instructor, working without pay as he had not used up all the money he had earned. So many once-wealthy entertainers make bad decisions and end up with financial and / or emotional difficulties, so it was good to know the person I’d admired in my youth seemed to be living a good and useful life. A few decades ago a local television station showed late afternoon reruns of Here Comes The Brides. Watching as an adult the series seemed a bit silly, but I found it enjoyable to watch (or at least listen to) as I prepared supper.
the trash emerging on line about Sherman’s personal life is the personification of our post-literate society….he achieves fame.// had that look…. and lo,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, those consequences..(( he was actually pretty boring personally..)
