April 2017: The Month in Home Media

The Month in Home Media is a monthly column highlighting short-lived or rare television series, specials, miniseries or made-for-TV movies released on DVD or Blu-ray during the previous month, as well as recent additions to streaming services like Warner Archive Instant. The releases discussed in this column are encoded for Region 1 use in the United States and Canada. The Month in Home Media is published on the first Thursday of each month.

April 2017 was a quiet month, with no major releases. Alpha Video did release two public domain titles, but that’s it. Also, Logan’s Run (CBS, 1977-1978) was added to Warner Archive’s streaming service.

DVD/Blu-ray Releases

Alpha Video released a pair of manufactured on demand titles last month: Lost TV of the 50s, Volume 2 [four episodes of Telephone Time] and Sci-Fi Cartoon Classics, Volume 5 [four episodes of Space Angel].

DVD/Blu-ray News

Decoy, the syndicated 1957-1958 crime drama starring Beverly Gardland, is finally getting a legitimate complete series DVD set. Many of the 39 episodes have been released by public domain companies. Film Chest Media Group will release the entire series on DVD on May 30th (TVShowsOnDVD.com).

Streaming

Warner Archive added Logan’s Run to its streaming service last month. Based on the 1976 film of the same name, the sci-fi series ran for 14 episodes on CBS during the 1977-1978 season. The complete series was released on DVD in 2012.
