7:30 SUMMER OLYMPICS–Tokyo (NBC)
[SPECIAL] Scheduled: a track and field preview, rowing semifinals, feather-weight finals in weightlifting, and yachting. This week’s schedule of events is in the Olympics Guide on page A-4. (60 min.)

COMBAT! (ABC)
“Silver Service.” Kirby is at a rest camp when the Germans stage a surprise attack, and he’s forced to join up with the loud-mouthed truck driver who brought him there. Script by Kay Lenard and Jess Carneol from a story by Edward J. Bonner. (60 min.)

8:00 WORLD WAR I (CBS)
“Atrocity 1914.” The German generals were confident that Belgium’s resistance to invasion would amount to no more than “lining up her army along the road taken by German forces.” But the Belgian Army, although hopelessly outnumbered, fought back unexpectedly and effectively. As the German advance was slowed, they responded with brutal reprisals: the confiscation of food; the destruction of villages; the shooting of hostages; the sack of Louvain and the burning of its irreplaceable library.

8:30 RED SKELTON (CBS)
Red’s guests are Ed Wynn and singer Vikki Carr. In the sketch, a visiting Sultan (Wynn) wants San Fernando Red to sell him an American wife. Sophie: Mary Wickes. In the Silent Spot, Red is an outdoor chef with a brand new barbecue. Vikkie warbles ‘Bye, Bye, Blackbird” [sic] and “Loverland.” Tom Hansen dancers, David Rose orchestra. (60 min.)

MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.–Drama (NBC)
“The Shark Affair.” Solo tracks down a modern-day pirate who has bizarre preferences in the kind of passengers and goods he steals–piano tuners, aspirin, shoe laces… Script by Alvin Sapinsley. (60 min.)

McHALE’S NAVY–Comedy (ABC)
“McHale’s Floating Harem.” McHale and his men set off to rescue a visiting sultan and his three daughters, whose plane has been forced down near the base.

9:00 TYCOON (ABC)
Walter’s in the hospital for a check-up, and his eccentric ways and refusal to take orders are driving the staff to distraction. Walter: Walter Brennan. Pat: Van Williams. Wilson: Jerome Cowan.

9:30 PETTICOAT JUNCTION (CBS)
Bedloe sees an opportunity to close down the Hooterville Cannonball when he learns that an Indian tribe has legal title to the land the Cannonball’s tracks are on.

POLITICAL TALK–Republican (NBC)
Sen. Barry M. Goldwater, Republican Presidential candidate, is the speaker.

PEYTON PLACE–Serial (ABC)
Dr. Rossi meets Dr. Robert Mortan, a man who will have an important bearing on Rossi’s medical career.

10:00 DOCTORS/NURSES (CBS)
“The Respect of One for Another.” Liz can’t identify the person who phones her apartment regularly because he never speaks, and the tense situation is beginning to affect her work. Liz: Shirl Conway. Ski: Michael Tolan. Steffen: Joseph Campanella. (60 min.)

  1. Tonight’s plot summary for The Fugitive sounds interesting. Wonder how he handles that problem. Also, it’s interesting that TV Guide puts the scriptwriter in some of the episode summaries. I got TV Guide back in the seventies but don’t remember them doing that even that long ago.
